A two-level bed for cats and dogs. The top platform sits 735 mm up, about the height of a bed with a mattress on it, so the animal lies beside you rather than on the floor or on the doona. Setting up
Unfold the frame, lock the four castors and drop the two mattresses in. The den's three doors unzip completely and roll back if your pet would rather have it open.

The top platform sits 735 mm off the floor, which is about the height of a bed base with a mattress on it. That is the whole idea: the dog or the cat lies level with you rather than underfoot, and nobody has to negotiate over the doona at midnight. The platform is 870 × 560 mm, on a sponge mattress over a PP board, with Dutch velvet around the edges where a head usually ends up.
Underneath is a den with three zipped doors and mesh panels. Zip them shut for somewhere dark and quiet, or roll them all back and it becomes an open shelf. The frame is carbon steel in three supports arranged as a triangle, the outer is 600D Oxford cloth with a waterproof base, and four lockable castors push the whole thing into another room.

Two mattresses, one frame.
Each level gets its own sponge mattress sitting on a PP board, so neither sags into the frame under a heavy sleeper. The top edges are finished in Dutch velvet, which is the part a dog rests its chin on. The outer is 600D Oxford cloth with a waterproof base, so a wet paw or a spilled water bowl wipes off rather than soaking in.

A den that opens right up.
The lower level has three doors, each one zipped with a mesh panel. Close them all and it is a quiet, shaded space to retreat to when the house is full. Unzip and roll them back and it is simply an open shelf at floor level, which suits the animals who would rather see what is going on. Mesh means air moves through either way.

Questions we get asked
What size animal does the large suit?
The top platform is 870 × 560 mm, so a dog that curls up within about 850 mm nose to tail is comfortable: a cocker spaniel, a border collie, a whippet, or a couple of cats. The frame is rated to 45 kg in total. A great dane will be over both numbers.
Can the den be closed off completely?
Yes. All three doors zip shut, and each one has a mesh panel so air still moves and the animal can see out. Unzip all three and roll them back if your pet would rather have it open, which many prefer for the first few weeks.
Will it roll on carpet?
The four castors swivel and lock. On short pile they roll well enough; on thick carpet it is easier to lift one end and walk it round. Lock all four once it is where you want it, particularly on floorboards or tiles where it would otherwise drift.
Is it washable?
The outer is 600D Oxford cloth and the base is waterproof, so most of it wipes down with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. The mattresses are not listed as machine washable, so spot clean those, stand them on edge and let them air dry.
How small does it fold?
